Was A Presidential Change “Change” We Could Believe In?

America was up in arms after president Barack Obama won the 2012 presidential race. Of course Barack winning another four years as president means that there is bound to be “change”. But there are several people who argue that Barack Obama did nothing for four years and will not change anything after being president for another four years. Would America have been better off with a new president or will Obama keep his promises for America?

One of the problems right now is the economy. The tax system is a mess. Mitt Romney promised to cut taxes for the rich while Barack Obama thought it would be better to tax the wealthy and help the middle class. Would we be better off with Romney’s plan or are we lucky to have Obama as a president. According to CNBC “Cutting taxes…may widen the income gap between the rich and the rest…A study from the Congressional Research Service…shows that there is little evidence over the past 65 years that tax cuts for the highest earners are associated with savings, investment or productivity growth. In fact, the study found that higher tax rates for the wealthy are statistically associated with higher levels of growth.”

Another issue is immigration. Obama made the decision to stop deporting illegal immigrants who fall under certain categories and has promised to pass the DREAM Act if elected into a second term. Mitt Romney decided to take a different approach and stated that he would emphasize border security and build a fence to prevent immigrants from crossing the border illegally. Seeming as both stances on immigration will cost the tax payers money; it is unclear on whether one is more beneficial to the average American than the other.

Lastly, the issue of gay marriage is one that has been a hot topic. Many states passed laws allowing gay marriage and there is no doubt in my mind that Barack Obama will make it a nationwide law in the near future. Mitt Romney took a stance that gay marriage should be between a man and a woman. If you are a liberal then you are probably satisfied with Obama being president for this matter. Ultra conservatives on the other hand might want to pack up and move to Jamaica (homosexuality is illegal there).
