New Term, New Goals; Climate Change not one of them

Boosting the economy is the most important issue on Barak Obama’s agenda. And climate change will have to take a back seat. Any legislation that addresses climate change will also have to help improve the economy.

Obama does’t believe climate change is not important, “I am a firm believer that climate change is real, that it is impacted by human behavior and carbon emissions. As a consequence, I think we’ve got an obligation to future generations to do something about it,” Obama said during his first news conference since being reelected. However, Obama believes that right now America should focus on getting the economy back on its feet, so that we can help generate better green technology for the later generations.

Other issues on Obama’s agenda include immigration, tax reform and health care. Obama wants to push the Dream Act, which will create a path to citizenship for young immigrants brought to the U.S. illegally by their parents. By lowering corporate taxes he hopes to close loopholes which will increase bipartisan support and create 1 million manufacturing jobs. And ultimately he hopes to continue his health-care plan.

Overall, once the economy is safely grounded, climate change will be able to make a greater impact.
